Chisum Cafeterias Contemplate Breakfast Meal Groupings

by Penny Kelly

The Mustang Cafés at Chisum ISD offer a wide variety of food choices for our students and staff. As you can imagine, some items are more popular than others. As we enter October, we are looking at the most and least requested items and making some changes.

Each breakfast service offers at least one hot entrée and several cold entrees. Fruit, juice and milk are also included as part of the meal. In fact, for the student to receive the meal for free, it must include three items of which one must be a serving of fruit or juice.

Under consideration for the cold breakfast line are pairings of items like a Pop Tart, Cereal Bar or Cereal Bowl with a hardboiled egg. Yogurt will be paired with whole grain graham crackers. These pairings will help us keep costs in line and deliver customer satisfaction.

Hot entrees, such as the popular sausage biscuit, will meet the 2-whole-grain entree requirement. Students may choose fruit, juice and milk to go with them.

What makes a great breakfast? 1-2 whole grains, ½-1 cup of fruit, juice or vegetable. 1 carton of milk (optional).

What’s next on the drawing board? Lunch Box Buddies to go with the meal you pack for your student. Stay tuned for more information.
