Socio-Ecnomic Form Helps School Fundraising

The real school fund-raising tool is the Socio-economic form you receive for your students. Individual household answers aren’t public. The answers are tallied to show the whole picture of the socio-economic status of the district. This is critical for schools to receive needed funding.
Before Chisum joined the Community Eligibility Program (CEP), which provides free breakfast and lunch to each student, parents were required to complete an application. The application provided the school with household information including the number of residents and the household income. That was paired with data received from the state showing which students received benefits like SNAP and Medicare. Parents paid part of the meal costs and the USDA reimbursed a large portion. The district paid the difference.
CEP takes away the need for parents to complete a form for meals. The school receives funding for each meal based on the number of students receiving these benefits. Right now the district receives $4.75 for 63% of the lunches sold and 45 cents for the other 37%. This funding doesn’t cover the cost of the program. The difference must be paid from the district general fund. This year the difference may be as much as $200,00.00. There really is no such thing as a free lunch.
HOW YOU CAN HELP- Complete and return the socio-economic form your student receives. Even if you don’t qualify, it helps the school. It’s the best school fundraiser and you don’t even have to buy a box of candy.
