CISD Board Holds Jan. Meeting

by Penny Kelly

Jan. 15, 2026: In attendance: Superintendent Tommy Chalaire, Board President Travis Ball, Board Members Larry Rickman, Dashielle Floyd, Judd Oats, and Matt Patterson

Agenda items of note:

District of Innovation Plan Renewal – adopted by the board to begin 2/1/2026. All procedures were reported on and followed for this plan.

2026-2027 School year transfer policy to remain unchanged.

Budget Amendment for Supplemental pay for Special Education teachers and paraprofessionals. Approved at $3000 per year for paras and $5000 for teachers. These are employees who care for the students with the highest needs. They may be non-verbal, in wheelchairs, in diapers and have other special needs. Chisum has been losing these employees to districts who are paying additionally.

Budget Amendment to update meal cost allotments. When students are taken off campus, the meal allowance is not enough to cover meals at the current 2026 costs. The same is true for adults traveling on school business. Superintendent Chalaire based his recommendation on a Whataburger #1 meal with and without cheese. The new approved amounts are students $8 breakfast, $15 lunch, $15 supper. Students usually purchase fast food for lunch and supper. Adults, who may be at a conference and having a sit-down meal, are approved at $10 for breakfast, $20 for lunch and $25 for supper. Updated student and adult meal allotments were approved by the board

A budget amendment was approved to raise funds to address replacing aging school vehicles. The amount was increased from $27,500.00 to $70,000.00

In the 2026-2027 school year, Chisum ISD will receive one-time payouts from two of the solar farms. Eagle Springs will pay $472,165.00 and MRG Goody will pay $1,151,371.00.

In an update on construction and campus improvements, it was reported that the road to the new Ag building is nearing completion.

The meeting ended by acknowledging appreciation for those serving on the board as January is School Board Appreciation Month.
