Texas Dept. of Insurance Tips: Surprise doctor’s bill? You might not have to pay it

A surprise bill from a doctor or other medical provider can be unwelcome. Good news: You might not have to pay for it. A new federal law and 2019 state law ban surprise billing in emergencies or when you didn’t have a choice of doctors. Federal law also protects you from surprise bills from air ambulance services.
