Community Effort Pays Off Big

It takes a village. Thanks to all who bought a flag or donated! It takes a village. Thanks to all who bought a flag or donated!

It takes a village as the saying goes, and Roxton’s village has been busy during July. Thanks to Vicky Bailey’s efforts to keep the flags flying in Roxton, every project benefited. Vicky talked to the Roxton VFD who donated the flags and poles they had previously put out each holiday to the Community Development Committee. Vicky spearheaded the CDC effort to sell the flags with the proceeds to benefit the ongoing Save the Lights campaign to restore the town’s Victorian lights. Vicky’s July the 3rd flag sale event brought in $1125 for the Save the Lights campaign. Thanks to the Fire Department, Vicky, and everyone who bought a flag. So if you are wondering where the Save the Lights effort currently stands, here’s the latest. Last week the city received two bids for the restoration of the lights. As with everything entailing construction materials in 2021, the bids are double what we had anticipated—which was about $9000. As with all bids these days, the quotes are only good for 7 days. We are shocked but not defeated. We will continue our efforts to raise the funds to have the Victorian lights repaired. We will keep you posted on the progress. In the meantime if you are looking to honor someone, please consider this worthy cause. Send your donation to City of Roxton with Save the Lights on the memo line. We will have lights again! Can we plan for Christmas? Santa, if you are taking early orders, that’s all I want.
