Playing Politics with the Truth

by W.A. Martin

The danger of playing politics with the truth is always a concern. Remember, it is your soul that is to be saved or lost. Every preacher must be certain to administer the divine prescription just as the Great Physician gave it. Every individual must be certain a doctor’s orders have not been tampered with. It is his soul that will be lost if he does not follow the divine orders of the only physician who can heal the sin-sick soul — Christ, the Son of God. Every man, woman, boy, and girl should observe and examine any spiritual remedy offered by religious teachers and leaders. The Bible says, “Believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God, because many false prophets are gone out into the world” (I John 4:1). Don’t play politics with your soul. Watch for scriptures misquoted or misapplied. Watch and listen to see if the religious instructor declares as nonessential any condition prescribed by the Great Physician. Beware of any person who might say, “I know the Bible says that, but I don’t think it is necessary.” See that no religious teacher leaves out anything included in the Great Physician’s orders. Don’t play politics with the truth! Confidence in the doctor’s orders or die. “For if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8; 24). “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” (I-Jeb.11: 6). Must repent! Ignorance is no excuse. Die if orders are not followed. “Except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). “And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now conmandeth all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17). Start off right! Confess Christ, allegiance to the Great physician, or cure denied. The eunuch answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God” (Acts 8:37). Christ said, “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven” (Matt.10:32). Must be baptized — buried in water for the remission of sins. To change or modify doctor’s orders is to risk loss of the soul. Christ said, “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved” (Mark 16:16). “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). “They went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him” (Acts 8:38). Don’t play politics with the truth! The N.T. teaches that calling on the name of the Lord is relying on the authority or name of Christ by doing what he says. It does not say just saying “Lord, Lord,” but it means doing God’s will. (Matt.7:21; Luke 6:46). When Paul became a Christian he called upon the name of the Lord by being baptized into Christ (Acts 22:16; Rom. 6; 3). Luke stressed the urgency of the jailer and his family’s being baptized. After they heard the word of the Lord, Luke said, “And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes and was baptized — he and all his straightway. “They learned - by hearing the word of the Lord that they needed to be baptized in order to get into Christ and reach the forgiveness, or remission of their sins. (Gal. 3:27).
