Local Student's Poetry Selected for Competition
Alivia Hughes
Alivia Hughes, a fifth-grader at Aaron Parker Elementary School, has been informed by The America Library of Poetry (ALP) that her poem, "Dancing," has been registered in the organization's 2020 Student Poetry Contest. Her teacher, Mrs. Jennings, nominated Alivia earlier this year.
During the summer, the ALP will have several rounds of contests to determine division winners. Winners and runners-up will be announced on September 30. Prize awards include laptop computers, tablets, and iPad Touch, "School's Out" Shopping Spree, Amazon gift cards, and a grand prize of $500.
"Dancing" has already been selected for print in ALP's book of student poetry, "Together." The book will be released this fall.
In its letter to Alivia, an ALP representative wrote, "I congratulate you on an outstanding accomplishment. You should be very proud, especially when you consider the many talented authors who may never be discovered or have the opportunity to see their work in print."
Alivia is the daughter of Jeremy and Kristin Hughes and grandaughter of Jerry and Debbie Hindman, all of Roxton.
This fall, Alivia will be attending Bailey Intermediate School at North Lamar ISD.
Congratulations, Alivia! We are rooting for you to win that $500 grand prize!
