Pecan Gap News
The Lamar-Delta retired teachers association presented each Pre-K and Kindergarten student with a book of their own Friday. Before they were given their books, Karen Pickard, retired Fannindel Elementary teacher, read to the Pre- K and Wanda White, retired teacher and FISD Board President, read to kindergarten. This is an annual project of retired teachers. The next service of the Pecan Gap Community Church will be Sunday, April 18 at 5:00 p.m. Jeromy Connell will be preaching. Everyone is invited. The service is to be held at 4732 FM 64, in the Red Barn. The Hoskisons spent the afternoon last Sunday fishing near Celeste. Sharline and Weldon Freeman announce the arrival of their third great-grandchild, Woods Drew Mason. The Drew is for Scott Drew, Baylor’s men’s basketball coach. The Fannindel Elementary 3-5 grade students went on a field trip last week to the TAMU-C Planetarium in Commerce. After the hour long presentation the students went to the Commerce City Park to enjoy what was a beautiful day! The students ate their sacked lunches and then had fun playing on all of the playground equipment. Before returning to school, the students were treated to a surprise, especially for their respectful behavior on the field trip. Just as the school bus was about to pass in front of McDonald’s, it slowed down and turned into the parking lot. Ms. Moody, the 4th grade teacher requested the bus to stop and each child was taken inside and she bought them an ice cream cone! This excited the children very much as they cheered so loudly whenever she told them what she was going to do! The field trip concluded with each student enjoying their ice cream outside on the sidewalk. Cong r a t u l a t i ons to the Fannindel FFA Show Team as last week they traveled to their final Texas major show in San Antonio and by all accounts had a good end to an outstanding year. Mr Philip Burnett, FFA Teacher and Mr. Xavier Brown, FHS teacher and coach have done an excellent job with this group of students, despite the many difficulties that were encountered during the 2020-2021 show season. Fannindel loses a great group of seniors, but the upcoming classes and at least one of our current seniors are looking forward to a great summer season of State and National shows as well as some awesome local jackpot shows. As always, a special thank you goes out to the members of the local communities of both Pecan Gap and Ladonia that support this great group of students and the Fannindel FFA program all year long. Well as the old saying goes, “April showers, bring May flowers”, and last week “the Gap” was blessed with as much as 2” of rain, depending on where you were located in the County. Saturday, Fannindel’s 4x100 meter Boys Track Relay team finished 3rd at Regionals, just missing a trip to the State Track meet in Austin after having won 1st place the week before at Area. Congratulations Falcon Tracksters! Karen and Ed Pickard had an awesome time last Wednesday night at the Circus in Sulphur Springs with their granddaughter Audra! Later in the week, Ed went to Deberry, Texas to visit friends David and Judy Harris. David was the former of Mayor of Pecan Gap when they lived here during the 1990’s. John and Peggy Moss have been visiting their family in Flower Mound while celebrating another birthday. It was the 25th birthday of their granddaughter in law, Leah. Congratulations to Pecan Gap resident Caylee Conley who finished 2nd in the 100-meter dash and will be heading to the State Track meet for Cooper High School.
