As Mark Twain once said, “The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.” The same can be said for Roxton United Methodist Church. Rumors abound in Roxton that the church is closing permanently, but nothing could be further from the truth. The United Methodist Church chose to close all its member churches during the worst times of Covid-19. This was a move to keep parishioners and employees safe. This may have seemed to others that the church was failing. It is, in fact, going strong and has reopened. With the Roxton United Methodist Churches’ recent reopening, comes a change in leadership. Reverend Edrue Dodd, the previous pastor, was forced to retire due to health issues. Our love and prayers are with him and his wife Janet. They were both important contributors to our church. On Sunday, May 2, we welcome Reverend Nancy Russell to the pulpit. Nancy, as she prefers to be called, comes to us from First United Methodist Church of Deport. She is a resident of Brookston. During her time at Deport UMC, she’s been an active participant in their food pantry and is a beloved leader in their church. Nancy bring an enthusiasm of spreading God’s word and an innovative approach ministry. We are excited to have her as our new pastor. We hope you’ll join us Sunday mornings at 11:00am to welcome Nancy and hear God’s word through her.
