Gerald Holland
1936-2020
Gerald David Holland, 83, of Mesquite, Texas, passed on March 25, 2020. Gerald was born on June 2,
1936, to Marian Herman Holland and Cora Mae (Davidson) Holland, in Roxton.
Gerald graduated from Roxton High School in 1954. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959-1962. Gerald and Martha got married on August 31, 1963, in Valiant, Oklahoma. He worked at Campbell Soup
Company, in Paris from 1965-1975 while working on his bachelor?s degree from East Texas State
University. Gerald worked for the Mesquite Independent School District for 20 years and retired in 1996.
While teaching for Mesquite ISD, he taught at Vanston Middle School and A.C. New Middle School. He
received his Master of Science in 1984 from East Texas State University.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Martha Jane (Applegate) Holland; daughters: Cathy
Holdbrook and husband Ray, Paula Perschke and husband Dr. Douglas Perschke, and Michelle Hamill;
grandchildren: Bradley Holdbrook and wife Amanda, Corey Holdbrook, Hannah Holdbrook, Jacob
Perschke, Jordan Perschke, and David Hamill; great-grandchildren: Allie Holdbrook, Hadley Holdbrook,
and Turner Holdbrook; brother: Gary Holland and wife Peggy; and a host of nieces and nephews, all of
whom will miss Gerald greatly. He is preceded in death by his parents; sister: Margie Holland Parks; and
brother: James Holland.
A private family service was held in March. Mr. Holland is buried in Roxton?s Restland Cemetery.
