Spotlight on Leaders

Corey Gray, along with his good friend Brad Bassano are our 4-H Livestock Judging leaders and have been for many years.

Corey was born and raised in Lamar County, and graduated from North Lamar High School in 1995. He is married to his sweet wife, Carol Kay Gray, and they have 2 beautiful daughters, Cadie 15, and Chloe 12. Both girls are very active in livestock showing, and love everything about the livestock life.

The girls go to Prairiland ISD, and Carol also works there as a teacher’s aid. Corey has worked for Paris Farm and Ranch for 15 years now.

They have been active with the Lamar County 4-H for five years . Their girls have enjoyed participating in the Food Challenge, Livestock Judging, and other projects since getting involved. Corey has been leading the Livestock Judging project for the past three years .

In the past, our teams have competed at local Livestock Judging contests, and the District IV competition in College Station. At the contest, kids have an opportunity to judge cattle, sheep, goats, and pigs. At the local contests there is a questions class, where kids answer questions about the animals in the judging contest. At the District contest, its a little different, participants have to give verbal reasons to a judge describing why they placed the classes the way they did, similar to college Livestock Judging. Livestock Judging is a great project for any 4-Hers interested in learning more about livestock. If you like being around animals, and having a good time reach out to Corey Gray, Brad Bassano or the Extension Office.
