Chisum Middle School Junior Beta Club Members Participate in First State Competition

Paris, Texas –National Junior Beta members from Chisum Middle School are celebrating their recent participation in the Texas State Virtual State Convention. They were announced as State winners, and National Beta Convention Qualifiers, of the following competitions:
2nd Place Team Competition: Three-Dimensional Design

3rd Place Club Competition: Service-Learning Showcase

This project showcased all the community service events the club has participated in the First Semester of the school year.
Service Included: Overseeing games at the Festival of Pumpkins and Reno’s Monster Mash, creating 22 Shoebox Gifts for Operation Christmas Child, raising $500 to purchase Angel Gits for Lamar County’s CASA for Kids Program, and collecting food baskets for the CMS Holiday Food Drive.

Typically, National Beta State Conventions bring together students from across the state to compete in a variety of competitions ranging from Academic and STEM-based to Visual and Performing Arts. While State Convention, originally planned to be held in Dallas, was cancelled for in-person competitions due to health and safety concerns stemming from the COVID-19, members worked hard while taking online tests and preparing competition submissions for their Virtual Convention. The National Beta Convention is currently scheduled to be held this summer at Walt Disney World in Florida.
Chisum Middle School founded its chapter of Junior Beta in September of 2020. We are so very proud of their accomplishments, as this is their inaugural year, and honored to have four placing teams. Chisum had 32 members participate in this year’s event. Along with their Beta Competition projects, each student must earn four hours of community service each semester and maintain a GPA of 85.0 each year.
