Understanding God Part Nine - Truth

by Brother Louis Holmes

God is Truth.

God is the Source for all Truth.

God is the Author of The Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” In it we have the revelation of all things; from origins to the end of the dispensation of this earth. All things revealed His Word is truth.

God does not joke with man. He does not seek opportunity to mislead. God is absolutely serious about bringing the man to repentance. He is also very patient, longsuffering, and merciful.

Man can take comfort in the fact that God will ALWAYS be true to His Word and never break His promises. To put it is todays vernacular, “you can take Gods truth to the bank.”

The psalmist wrote in Psalm 25:5 “Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.” Notice the psalmist waits on God, not on the faculties of religious practice. As the Shepherd leads the sheep to still waters, green pastures, and protects us from our enemies, we wait on God; for His way is truth.

When we as believers see the world through the prism of Gods truth we see a much different picture. I don’t watch broadcast news or listen to talk radio any more. I desire to see all things in this world by God’s truth.

Occasionally I will hear a snippet of news and it’s obvious to me that the element of truth has been sacrificed for the cause of viewership and ratings. My heart aches to hear genuine news information based on truth.

The worldly narratives on gender, climate, income inequality, and more are contrary of the truth of God’s Word.

But here is the rub: Believers must be versed in the Word of God to know the difference between what is true and what is not. The Apostle Paul mentioned a little church in Berea (Macedonia) which did exactly that. Act 17:10-11 “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.”

For those who live with a shallow understanding of the Word of God they place themselves in a precarious position when it comes to discerning the truth. The Spirit of God gives comfort when we confidently make the choice for truth.

Finally, Truth is that thread in the tapestry of the Divine Essence which brings an abundant richness to our lives. I makes no difference if you are talking about the order of the universe or the table of elements. It is the Truth of God which is that cohesive element. Paul wrote in Colossians 1:16-17 “For by him (Jesus) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him (Jesus) all things consist.”

The Bible gives us insight to what we should do with truth. Consider the words of Solomon in Proverbs 3:3 “Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart:” and also Proverbs 23:23 “Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.”

Find Truth, seek it, buy it, hold it, and never let it go.
